Lot 2371 SUPER CONDITION J.P. CLABROUGH DOUBLE HAMMER GAME

GUN. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-5/8" (brass case). S# 19587. This high grade gun has 30" three stripe damascus barrels engraved "TREBLE" "Lockfast" and "J.P. Clabrough & Bro's. London" on unmatted portions of concave game rib with cloverleaf extension. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs with bore and muzzle marks along with "NOT FOR BALL". Case hardened top lever action with third fastener is fitted with front spring rebounding locks having tall serpentine hammers. Action is engraved with near full coverage very nicely cut shaded scroll within scroll borders which surrounds game bird scenes on tails of locks. Maker's name is on ribbons in front of hammer breasts. Blued trigger guard engraved with dog pointing flushing birds on bow has S# on tang. Round knob pistol grip buttstock made of nicely stump figured European walnut measures 14-1/4" over hard rubber buttplate embossed with "CLABROUGH DUCK & QUAIL GUN" "TRADE-MARK" around a retriever with quail. Delicate drop points are nicely carved behind locks. Grip checkering is of fancy pattern with fields varying in lines per inch separated by ribbons. A vacant silver shield is on toeline. Matching splinter forend with inset ebony tip has Deeley type release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .744 R .744. Restriction: L .34 (full). R .035 (full). Wall thickness: L .029. R .031. Barrels retaining over 90% original damascus brown; most loss due to a 7" area of cleaning on top of right barrel at muzzle. Action and locks retain about 95% original case hardening color with some light edge wear. Stocks retain nearly all of their original finish with a light scattering of minor marks. Checkering shows little wear except for some normal carry wear on forend. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Action is tight. Locks are crisp.
